Wenn man einen Einzellagen-Barolo wie dieses Traumexemplar von Gianfranco Alessandria ins Glas bekommt, steigt bereits die Vorfreude: tief dunkelrote Farbe, im Duft intensive Aromen von Brombeeren, Kirschen, getrockneten Kräutern und eine leicht florale Note, am Gaumen unterstreichen die dichte dunkelfruchtige Aromatik, feine Gewürz- und Tabaknoten und die geradlinige Tanninstruktur die vollmundige und zart mineralische Art des Weins. Wie erwartet ein wahres Barolo-Monument!

Packaged with a black label, the Gianfranco Alessandria 2019 Barolo San Giovanni (with 5,000 bottles made) is born in a little-known cru located in Monforte d'Alba. The wine is padded with extra richness and rich fruit in this vintage, and it reveals lots of aromatic detail and nuance with wild cherry, rose, crushed stone and a dab of dried mint. The finish is dry and mineral driven in an especially subtle manner.

The 2019 Barolo San Giovanni is the more powerful of the estate's two Barolos. It offers up scents of mocha, spice, dark cherry, plum and leather. There's a bit more new oak too, which adds intensity as well as volume. The San Giovanni emerges form the oldest vines on the property, but I have to admit I like the straight Barolo a bit more because of its greater finesse.

Vinifikation
San Giovanni ist eine hochwertige Einzellage in der Gemeinde Monforte d'Alba, die bei Piemont-Kennern für ihre äußerst erlesenen Barolos berühmt ist. Dieses Prachtexemplar der naturnah arbeitenden Weinbaufamilie Alessandria zeigt das besonders eindrucksvoll und ist nicht ohne Grund das Aushängeschild des Weinguts.
